THE BRAIN THAT DISCOVERED ITSELF (under contract with Farrar, Straus and Giroux) tells the story of the discovery of the neuron and the birth of modern brain science at the turn of the twentieth century, told through the life and work of Nobel Prize winner and Spanish national hero Santiago Ramón y Cajal, whose scientific breakthroughs transformed our understanding of mind and brain. The project is supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
